We've Been Married for a One Year--Blissful Ramblings

08.04.12

It was a hot, smoky Californian summer day. Hot because it was August and smoky because of wildfires. I didn't care, though. I got to marry my man that day.
My best friend,
My logical counterpart.
The man who will forever make my heart swoon.
My high school sweetheart.
The boy who tried to help me in Physics class when all  I wanted to do was flirt.

And marry him I did.

If you were there you know what transpired
I bawled going down the aisle and my brother totally stepped all over my dress.
I stopped once I saw Stephen, who beamed with the utter delight only grooms know.
And we laughed and cried, as did our guests during the ceremony.

People have told me that our ceremony was the most fun ceremony they've ever witnessed. We didn't do anything "fun" purposefully, but we are allowed our love, joy, and pure excitement to permeate the sanctuary that day. And we've kept that joy and fun alive in the past year of our marriage--laughter is required in the Maurer home.

Stephen and I got married fourteen years after we met.
Four years after we first realized there was something special about the other.
And three years and 2 months after started officially dating.

We went through the trials of any relationship, the trials of a long distance relationship, and the trials of young relationship. But all that was worth it because this year has been the most amazing year of my life.
I have a husband.
I have a life partner
I have a best friend whose stuck with me ;)

People like to tell young couples marriage is hard.
I think this is to combat the ridiculously high divorce rate.
And it is hard.
It's also wonderful, awesome, blissful, and  the most  amazing thing you'll ever be a part of.

Awesome part about being married: a girl can sit on her husband's lap in church! (That's what prompted this perfect candid.)
